ANTONÍ is an aspiring songwriter and performer, who grew up around the forest town of Ilmenau, Thuringia. In 2022 ANTONÍ and Turkish songwriter and producer Can Güngör have embarked on crafting her promising debut album "Holding Tight Lightly", which is now scheduled for release on April 19.
"Holding Tight Lightly" was recorded between the Şen Bakkal Studios in Kadıköy, İstanbul and ANTONÍs bedroom in Leipzig. It consists of 14 original folk songs with genre-bending arrangements, featuring musicians from all over Europe, such as the Norwegian composer/arranger Einar Stray from Einar Stray Orchestra.
Since 2017 and until the album production, ANTONÍ had played countless shows at clubs and international festivals. She mentioned that performing at the Wonderest Festival amidst the wild nature of Transylvania alongside with some of her closest friends was a very impactful experience. ANTONÍ opened concerts for established acts, such as Iron & Wine and Katie Von Schleicher.
In 2018/19 she has spent a transformative time among a community of Turkish artists in the Netherlands; the "brain drain" of the İstanbul independent scene. Those years have evoked a vision of producing her debut record with Can Güngör, whose solo albums inspired her a lot. However, the songs on "Holding Tight Lightly" were written and pre-produced very aimlessly when the world stood still during the pandemic. ANTONÍ then reached out to her label Sonokraft in 2022 to plan her first album production.
